	The Palestine Society at London's School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) organised the first London Palestine Film Festival in Spring 1999. In response to increasing public interest in the festival, the Society decided in 2004 to establish the Palestine Film Foundation as a body dedicated to the coordination of the festival. The Palestine Film Foundation is a nonprofit initiative which seeks to develop an audience for and to encourage the development of a Palestinian cinema and cinema related to Palestine. Formed in 2004, the Foundation is managed by a network of volunteers from Palestine, the UK and elsewhere. In addition to the annual festival, the Palestine Film Foundation coordinates a series of film and video related tours, special screenings and seminars throughout the year and across the country. These activities allow the Foundation to introduce innovative and important works of documentary and fiction to new audiences and to provide a forum for visiting artists to engage UKbased audiences with work that is otherwise seldom screened. In previous years, these activities have seen the Foundation cooperate with numerous universities, sixth form colleges, community centres and repertory cinemas across the UK. The Foundation relies upon charitable donations, voluntary staffing and a network of associated film makers, distribution agencies and production houses for the funding of its projects.
